# How does Meses treat other income and credit balances?

Not everything that lands in the account is a dues payment. Meses (meses.ai) separates income that is not dues, such as interest or refunds, from resident payments, and records apart whatever a resident pays above their fee. That way your collection totals do not mix different things.

## In short

- Income that is not dues is not assigned to a resident.
- An overpayment is recorded apart as a credit balance.
- Only items with a safe destination are written to the sheet.

## 1. Other income

- These are deposits that are not dues: refunds, advertising, transfers between your own accounts or interest.
- They are not assigned to any resident or to a dues allocation.
- If your sheet already records them, Meses shows that as evidence; if the information conflicts, the deposit stays unresolved for you to decide.
- You can also classify a deposit as other income from its details.

## 2. Credit balance

- A payment above the fee is identified as a credit balance, separate from the fee amount.
- When you apply the changes, Meses records it in your sheet following the format you already use.
- If it cannot find a clear place to record it, it leaves it out of the plan so you can record it yourself.

## 3. What reaches your sheet

- Verified other income is recorded in your sheet with its date, amount and bank reference, in the space your template already sets aside for it.
- Meses never writes over resident rows or totals.
- Anything without a clear place appears under “Not included — needs review first”, with the resident’s name where one is assigned.

## 4. An illustrative example

A fee is 1,500 and the resident deposits 1,550. Meses proposes 1,500 for the month's fee and 50 as a credit balance. The same month, a 320 interest deposit comes in: it becomes other income, with no resident. When you review the plan, you see both entries before anything is written.

## 5. How to close out excluded deposits

Review the excluded deposits in the reconciliation and resolve them, then apply the plan as described in [applying and undoing changes](/en/help/applying-and-undoing-changes). If a credit balance is left out, record it by hand so the resident sees it the following month.
