# Which files does Meses accept and when does it stop?

Meses (meses.ai) asks for two sources: your collections records, in Google Sheets, Excel or CSV, and the bank statement for the same month as a PDF. It reconciles only when it can read the PDF and the totals add up; if it does not recognise the layout, it stops and tells you, without sending the file to another service.

## In short

- Upload the statement as a PDF and your records as a sheet or file.
- Meses reconciles only when what it read agrees with the printed totals.
- If it does not recognise a layout, it stops and tells you.

## 1. Files you can upload

- **Records:** a Google Sheet, an Excel workbook or a CSV listing residents, units and expected dues.
- **Bank statement:** the original bank PDF for the month you reconcile.
- **Payment receipts:** optional extra evidence.
- The banks we show are BBVA, Santander, Banamex, HSBC, Scotiabank, Banorte, Inbursa, Banregio, Banco Azteca, BanBajío. That is a reference, not a guarantee that every layout is supported.

## 2. What makes a statement readable

- It is the PDF downloaded from the bank, not a photo or a screenshot.
- It keeps the date, amount, reference and payer of each transaction.
- It includes the printed deposit totals, because Meses uses them to check its own reading.
- It belongs to the month you chose; if not, Meses warns you before going on.

## 3. How the reading is checked

- Meses reads the transactions from the PDF itself; the bank statement file is never sent to an AI provider.
- It checks that the deposits it read agree with the totals printed on the statement.
- If they do not, it does not look for matches with doubtful data, and it tells you.

## 4. When the layout is not supported

- Meses stops and asks you to check the file.
- It does not upload the PDF to an AI provider as a fallback.
- Confirm it is the bank’s original for the right month and try again. If it still cannot be read, tell us so we can look at the layout.

## 5. Your records are validated too

Meses finds the records from the workbook’s structure, not from a sheet name. If it cannot identify them with confidence, it stops and may suggest sheets to try. See [how to prepare your records](/en/help/preparing-records) to get them ready.
