# Why does Meses ask me to confirm a payment?

Meses (meses.ai) asks you to confirm a payment when the evidence is not enough to assign it safely: the deposit could belong to more than one customer, or the person paying is not the one you expect. In those cases it would rather show you its proposal and reasoning than apply something you would later have to fix.

## In short

- Meses asks when a deposit can be read more than one way.
- You see the evidence and decide: confirm, reassign or classify.
- A clear reference on each payment means fewer questions.

## 1. Cases that usually ask for confirmation

- A payment made by someone else, such as a relative or a company, instead of the customer.
- A cash deposit, which carries no payer name or source account.
- An amount that could belong to several customers and arrives without a reference that tells them apart.
- A payment that covers more than one period or does not match what was owed.

## 2. Why asking is better

A misassigned payment creates two errors at once: one customer looks up to date when they are not, and another gets an overdue notice they do not deserve. A confirmation takes seconds; undoing that mistake with an upset customer takes far longer.

## 3. What you see before deciding

- The amount, the date and the complete bank reference.
- Who and which period Meses proposes, explained in plain language.
- The sheet, row and cell in your records that support the proposal.

## 4. How to resolve it from the payment

- Open the payment, review the evidence, then confirm, reassign or classify it as other income.
- Before saving, Meses shows the exact customer, period and amounts.
- Your decision is marked as a manual resolution and can be reopened.

## 5. How to need fewer confirmations

- Ask customers to include their reference or unit number on every transfer.
- Note advance payments and special arrangements in your sheet.
- Keep track of who pays on behalf of each customer when a third party does.
